Overview:
Heavenly Sword is a video game in development by Ninja Theory for the PlayStation 3 console. It is a martial arts action-drama game with a freestyle combat system.

Heavenly Sword started development on PC with a view to moving onto next generation platforms such as the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3. It had been stated that the title was in development since 2003 with footage of the original PC version published on TeamXbox.com in 2004. It had, at one time, been up and running on an early Xbox 360 prototype but this was abandoned in favour of the PLAYSTATION 3 when the title was picked up by SCEE.

Actor Andy Serkis, who is best known for his motion capture and voice work for the character Gollum in the The Lord of the Rings movies, performs as the voice and motion capture actor for King Bohan, one of the major characters in Heavenly Sword.

Heavenly Sword is powered by Havok Physics.

A demo was released to the Playstation Store on July 26, 2007. It features a short, cinematic clip at the beginning and two brief enemy battles. The demo is approximately 5-10 minutes long. After the demo the game screen reads, "Redemption arrives in September", tying in with the game's scheduled for release on September 12, 2007 for the U.S.

Following E3 2006, the game the was awarded "Best Fighting Game" by the Game Critics Awards. The game also gained critical reception from a number of gaming websites, including "Best Artistic Design" and "Award for Technological Excellence" in IGN's PS3 Best of E3 2006 Awards, "Top Playable Game" by next-gen.biz,, "Best PS3 Game" by Meristation, and "Best of Show" by GameZone and GamePro.

Play Magazine gave it a full 10 out of 10, for its graphics, cutscenes, and the gore. They also stated that it was, perhaps, the most cinematic game ever created.
